I wanted to get all of the foods in this post recorded before new year’s day, but holiday insanity being what it is, that didn’t happen. There’s not much that says “NYC street food” like a big soft pretzel (seen here: me having a “working lunch” as I race through Times Square). You can find them on pretty much every street corner below 125th street. But, I hate to break it to y’all, the very VERY BEST soft pretzels are found in Amish country.

WOOHOO! BREAKING 100! I’m now 1/10 of the way done with 1000 Foods to Eat Before You Die, after starting this project a year and a half ago. I made a push to break 100 by concentrating on the American and Canadian section of the book — all of these foods are from that chapter.

Only a little traveling this week, but you can eat the world in NYC, so it’s not like that slows a body down. I bounced all over the book, but made most of my progress in the Mexican chapter.

Summer is for travel, friendship, and checking foods off the list. As well as work, anxiety, unexpected dental and veterinary expenses, and suffocating heat, but let’s focus on the positive. Like the fact that I finally tried Poutine.

it’s been a year since last I updated my 1000 Foods To Eat Before You Die journey. I’m still eating foods, I just haven’t been very good about keeping track of when I’m checking them off, and I’ve been downright negligent about blogging them. Let’s look at the things I have eaten in the last year that I have managed to take photos of.

I would hate for any of you to think that just because my life is in total upheaval and the blog is quiet, that I am not still eating everything I can get my hands on. I am still doing that. I am even still (most of the time) remembering to take photos.

I’ve had both savory and sweet bread puddings, and though some people are put off by the chewy (and in cases where it’s done wrong, soggy) texture of the dish, I am not going to let a little thing like that stand between me, sugar, bourbon, and eggs.
